Megamixes
« on: October 19, 2008, 02:57:44 pm »
Ok. There's that evil 60 minute technical limit on songs, so I've been wanting to slice a couple of mixes into a few fairly sized segments.

There's the hardcore yearmix 2006. Two hours and nineteen minutes, 2 CDs

And Sensation the Megamixes 2005. Just over an hour. 1 cd.

Problem is, if I'm wanting to compete with others that have these mixes, they'd have to be cut up and a common guideline would have to be set.
So, what would be a reasonable spot to stick a knife in?
Hardcore yearmix has a cutoff at the end of CD one, a voice saying "Will continue on CD 2" and when you start CD 2, it just says "Hardcore yearmix 2006" and goes back into the techno.

Sensation has what appears to be an acceptable cutoff spot at minute 34--so you don't butcher the mix you're surfing.
I'd prefer cutting these in Audacity, as Goldwave just crashes itself on songs like this.
Any ideas?

Well, just make the cuts, convert the result to ogg (mp3 is also possible but has some disadvantages such as slightly different tracks for different PCs), and distribute it (Mediafire, etc...). For music cutting + fadein/out, Audacity if totally ok. And, as long as everyone you send it to has the original CD, this is not even against Copyright laws, I think.

Ok. Sensation The Megamixes.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS CLOSELY
Open in Audacity, zoom in twice. (Or more, just as long as you highlight the time two steps below)
Scroll over until you see 31:47.0.
Click the small line just after 31:37.0  This lines represents 31:47.5
Go to Edit> Select> Start to cursor.
Save selection as Ogg vorbis.
Open the properties of the file, rename the tag to say "The Megamixes (Part 1)"
Select the rest of the file, save as whatever you want and rename the tag to "The Megamixes (Part 2)"
Artist should be "Sensation 2005"
Obviously, take off the quotes.

TL;DR
Artist: Sensation 2005
Title: The Megamixes (Part 1) and (Part 2)
Each divided at 31:47.5 and saved as Ogg using Audacity
