Hmm, that's strange... Try this, open YAAP, go to Options, Page 1, and click "Erase all data from the registry", then "Yes". Please note that you'll have to reconfigure everything after you restart YAAP.
I tried that yesterday with no luck, and again today but the error persists.

Woah, I'm running out of ideas here
Are you running YAAP from an Admin account or a Limited one?

I am an administrator on my computers.
Is there somewhere I can get old versions of YAAP? I had 2.8 on here before and that worked fine, but never tried 2.9. Perhaps the error would also occur in 2.9, which could help narrow it down.

The error seemed to indicate a problem with the Windows 7 specific parts. Perhaps compiling a binary without pulling in the
WindowsAPICodePack
DLLs and with the Windows 7 options disabled might make a difference?

I have an archive of YAAP versions (long story), I can upload one if that helps.

Versions 2.8 and 2.9 would be enough I think, if ViRUS believes it could help.

That's strange, since I started using those DLLs in version 2.5, and he says he could use 2.8 correctly... Still, I think it's worth giving it a shot...

Yup, I think it'll help, at the very least you would be able to use 2.8 or 2.9 until we find a solution for your problem...

Maybe so, but that's what it says.

I wonder why YAAP doesn't have access to Win7's taskbar though

Feature request!
Could you include .aac as a file it includes in -Files Audiosurf can play- so I don't have to add them all manually going through something like 500 folders?

Well, apparently it can, because that's what iTunes put all the files imported into it as, since they were originally .wma files. I was going to say .m4a as well, because I could have sworn I had Audiosurf playing those(but not .m4p), but I couldn't find an example anymore so better to leave it out.

Was going to use it for the no borders option, but, uh, had a few problems.
Firstly, I started it up, selected a playlist folder, and launched AudioSurf via it. Then I switched on A.OT. No Borders, but then it went over the YAAP window, making me have to shut down AudioSurf and move YAAP out of the way. Dumb mistake of mine. Okay, so I launch AudioSurf again, make sure the program is connected to it and out of the way of the AudioSurf window, says it's okay, and then hit the No Borders option again. I then hit the set resolution option, type in my desktop resolution, (1440x900), and then go back to the AudioSurf window. AudioSurf then resizes itself, but it's not centered, and goes over the YAAP program again, so I have to close AudioSurf again. I do everything again, but maximize the AudioSurf window before trying to do no borders/custom resolution so it should be centered already. Since it's at near full resolution, I obviously have to do the no borders option last, but I can't set the resolution to 1440x900 without, (theoretically), removing the borders. I try doing 1440x900, anyways, and then it looks like it'll work, and I hit the no borders option. Unfortunately, the task bar is still there, and the actual resolution it's at is like 1440x838 or something. I try a bunch of random combinations of trying to make it work, but at some point, some glitch or something happened where if I hit any button, including on my mouse, it'd just make the screen go black for a few seconds, and task manager would open, but since I had AOT enabled, I couldn't even get to it, so I had to turn off my computer and restart.
...that's basically why I quit trying,

.m4a is doable.
All of my Def Leppard is in m4a and Audiosurf can play that no problem.
