Long songs makes the ride out of sync
« on: September 24, 2008, 03:11:06 pm »
Hi there, I am just another Audiosurf fan and keep Audiosurf as a routine for experiencing music. I will visit this forum whenever I have got something on my mind to improve Audiosurf and whatsoever... Then again, I realize I'm not alone here, gladly.  ;D

Sorry, let's get on-topic! I am one of the people who likes to use long songs (mostly stretching from 10-55 min.) and even decided to assemble DJ mixes to experience music in a new way. What I happened to discover in Audiosurf, while playing songs that are over 20 minutes long, is that the ride is getting more and more out of sync. The speed of the song ride is unaffected, but it appears that the blocks and the stage is running a few seconds too early for the notable beats of the song.  :-\

It may be a minor bug that only a few might have discovered (Of course, I've searched the forums) or it's just me, but it bothers me that I can't enjoy the songs as much as the short ones.  :(

Anyhow, I hope there will be a solution for this bug. Sincerely, Kustin.

Another thing I've noticed is:

The block count is wrong on longer songs (>6min). I tried playing The Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize. In the Play screen it showed that there will be 170 (or 240, can't check right now) blocks, but I am sure, that there were way more, cause I had like 550k raw points by the end of the song. And I'm not that good of a player.

That's traffic count, not block count :P Plus it doesn't count for different colors that may be present on the track.

That's just a function of the game. Though it really is odd, the desync-ing.

I also need to add that the desyncing doesn't happen until after the 15-20 minutes when you ride the long song.

Right, Traffic Count. My bad.

... Plus it doesn't count for different colors that may be present on the track...

Anyway, what do you mean with this? It counts only one color or something?

He means that instead of the beats of the song matching the blocks, after a while the blocks come too early so they don't quite match the beat of the song.

Exactly!
The speed of the ride remains unaffected, but due to the desync it won't go faster down the intense parts after the climax until after a few seconds.

Pyritie, I'm addressing Uupis :)

The traffic count doesn't address colors, so you could have a 300 traffic song with 90% purples, giving you a very low maximum score. Your maximum point count can be roughly determined by the traffic count, but a song full of purples gives a much lower score than a song full of blues/greens etc...

I don't know when it has happened, but the sync problem has finally been fixed!

So hooray! Now I can enjoy lengthy songs without being bothered about late blocks! :D

Yeah, but the system doesn't work that way. A 300 traffic track will have lots of red/yellow simply because of the reason it's 300 in the first place.

Yay, so it is fixed! I tried out an 18 minute mix by Paul Linford, and it was perfectly synced all the way. Awesome!

Doesn't make it obsolete.  The system does not, has never, and will not work the way the quote described it.
