Hiya mate,
You might want to give EVE online a try, I have been playing for nearly 2 years now and find it not to the grindfest that other MMO's are, you can download the trail from
www.eve-online.com.
Its pretty immersive and if you do play I suggest you DON'T go make a sandwich at any point, its rules are pretty tuff on players, non of this resurecting with all your equipment nonsense, if you die you stand to lose a lot e.g. some players have worked hard running missions, mining, trading and manufacturing for months to afford some of the more high end ships and modules only to be a complete idiot and go afk to make the affor mentioned sandwich only to return to find some ebil piwate has WTFBBQPWND there shiny new ship and stolen his tasty loot.
Its a non consentual PVP model, meaning anyone at anytime may engage you in space, som regions are policed however but you pick that up pretty quick (thinks back to the days when i shot a station in hi security space only to be insta popped by the police)
Expantions are free and around 3 are released each year.
Best way is to join a player owned corporation and go flying about on ops with other fleet members.
Fun times!!
