wine 1.0-rc5 is out and it's supposed to be the last rc before going final.
has anyone tested to see how well audiosurf works under this version?

I tried installing audiosurf under wine before but I could never get it to work.
maybe I'll wait for the final...

It depends, I can play 800x600 Normal, no more than that...

Works as well as can be expected over here... file browser is still screwy, but i can play windowed (sorta) and fullscreen (trying to change windowed resolution doesn't work, though, so that's stuck in default). Besides that, and the odd freeze here and there, it runs pretty smooth on normal (highest quality drives it bonkers, though...).

Here's hoping for even more work on this one post-1.0!

EDIT: Just to note, I haven't had time to try out the new (audiosurf) update yet, but I'll check into that as well.

I'd say that's bad performance :P

1.0 works fine btw. The performance isn't that good, I get varying performance between 20 - 30 FPS. But game is loadable and playable at least.

thanks for the info, my FPS is around that in windows (I run audiosurf on an old pc which is actually slower than the recommended minimum :-\) so I might have to wait until I get a new pc before being able to play it under linux.

Just tried AS on my Ubuntu 8.04 install for the first time.

Using the latest version of WINE (with DirectX 9 installed and set up in libraries):
AS works, and loads faster than Windows. In windowed mode, everything is offset downwards. Fullscreen works fine. The file browser doesn't work at all. Tested Audiosurf Overture and it runs very bad, but it works. One of those tutorial popups appeared, and disabled sound. Had to restart the song to get it working again.

Performance is much worse than Windows, with the exception of load times, and it is glitchier.

I'd say it isn't currently playable ... on my system. Maybe someone else's.

I tried compiling Wine so I could remove the debug tools, but it is apparently extremely difficult to compile on 64-bit Ubuntu.

Hmm, I've been wanting to switch to Linux for a while now, and I'm about to try a dual-boot with Ubuntu 8.04 + Win XP, but I'd hate to lose Audiosurf if I switch over completely. I know next to nothing about WINE and that, but I'm hoping there will be a stable way to run audiosurf from Ubuntu.

stwert, it's very easy to get ubuntu installed. You can install it within windows using Wubi.

Once you have Ubuntu running, it's very easy to install Wine. There's something called a Package manager which basically helps new people to linux install software easily. All you have to do is open up the Synaptics package manager, then search for Wine. Then hit install. After Wine installs, you just install steam and audiosurf. Then, you just run steam then audiosurf.

You have to have a good enough CPU + graphics card to run it audiosurf under wine. I've noticed Audiosurf runs worse in Ubuntu than Windows. Worse come worst, you can always boot into Windows then play Audiosurf and your other games
