Yeah. Which is why it's not great for games as it lags quite a lot trying to convert it all.

But getting better as more and more of the calls can be converted on GPU instead of software.
Pretty much the entire DX9 API has been reconstructed by now. Funnily enough, DX10 has ben implemented for about 30% by now too. :+
Most game vendors haven't even picked up on that.

WINE is really making major strides currently.

Yeah, I just went from 0.9.48 to 0.9.58 and it's a huge difference, before I couldn't even get any games to run, or Steam, now Steam works perfectly and Audiosurf runs almost perfectly in fullscreen.

WINE is really making major strides currently.

What with getting funded by Google and all.

Also the performance hit with Wine is really miniscule. Some apps even run at a better performance.

Sure, and don't forget the many many improvements made to the wine codebase by the Codeweavers Crossover project. :)
And of course Google's Summor Of Code shouldn't be left out.

Is anyone else having trouble running the new updated version under Wine? And, more importantly, has anyone been able to come up with a fix?
The program crashes with a page fault error while starting up. Not good :(

Yeah, I've found all versions over 0.9.58 to not work at all. 0.9.59 and 0.9.60 just wouldn't load, the startup text was all screwy and I couldn't click Ok, and now it crashes during loadup on 0.9.61 with the pagefault or access violation. 0.9.61 is RIDDLED with access violations, I get them basically everywhere.

I've gone back to Windows until Wine release 1.0 on the 9th, hopefully that will fix everything.

Hm, you're right. I just downgraded back to 0.9.58 and it works fine. I assumed the problem was about the Audiosurf update, not about the new Wine version. It seems that I was wrong, though :)
So, to anyone else having this problem: you can get 0.9.58 here or wait for a new release of Wine.

I'm the guy who submitted the Wine bug report. Interesting that it works in 0.9.58, I'll run some tests and see which patch it was that broke Audiosurf.

1.0 rc1 doesn't really fix it.

1.0 rc1 doesn't really fix it.

That's because the patch for it isn't in 1.0rc1. I've tested that the patch in Bug #12979 works, we just have to wait for a maintainer to commit it.

And to follow up for those interested, the patch has been committed. It'll be in the next release.

I just registered so I can say that I'll buy Audiosurf as soon as its port to linux become available. Currently, only a couple of friends of mine have the game running their windows boxes.

Just passing by to say it's working flawlessly here with Wine 0.9.59 but with a HUUUGE performance impact (can play in Normal, 800x600 but, hey!, it's still better than nothing xD)...

Virus has Linux? I never would of guessed.

Waiting for fucking GHC to update which they said will be the end of this month, and then I can switch back to Linux.
