Osu! are recruiting.
« on: August 26, 2008, 12:11:04 am »
Osu! are looking for more staff members!

We are an anime fansubbing group, that was created early 2008. Even though we're relatively new, we've already generated a large fanbase due to our quality subs (we do not speed sub) and fast releasing. We currently sub Zero no Tsukaima and World Destruction, but with some more staff we hope to pick up more series.

If you love anime, or even if you just have some free time, see if you qualify for any of the following:

Translator (TL): The only requirement is you can speak fluent Japanese. If your English is good enough to understand this post then you quality as a translator. You will need to get the episode raws as soon as they are released, and translate the audio line by line directly into English as best you can. We are in need of translators the most!

Translator check (TLc): Requirements are fluent Japanese (only needs to be listening, writing isn't a requirement) and a fluent, or very solid grasp of the English language. You will take the translation, and check it against the Japanese audio for any mistakes or inaccuracies in meaning.

Editor (Edit): Requires you to be fluent in English, a native speaker is preferred, and all our subs are UK English. Do you constantly correct your buddy's grammar? Do you have a wide and sophisticated vocabulary? When you see someone of royalty in an anime being subbed as saying "Yeah mate lets go" do you think "Hang on, a queen wouldn't say that"? Then being an editor may be for you! Editor's take the translation, along with the translation checks, and edit the grammar and structure of each line to be fluent and transition nicely for reading.

Timing (Time): Do you have any knowledge of Aegisub? Want to learn? Do you instantly pick up on text, audio or video de-sync? Then this may be the job for you. Timers take the edited script, and sync each line to the audio and video of the episode, and can be nicely fit with the following job.

Typesetting (TS): Requires at least some knowledge of Aegisub or some other program that can create .ass files. Typesetting adds all the glitz and glamour to the subs. The typesetter chooses the colour, font and size of the subtitles, as well as more advanced things such as positioning (when two or more characters are talking at once, for example) and karaoke.

Encoding (Enc): Can you pick out at least 2 errors from the following script (not a requisite):

Quote
x264 - core 57 - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec - Copyleft 2005 - http://www.videolan.org/x264.html - options: cabac=0 ref=1 deblock=0:0:0 analyse=0x1:0
me=dia subme=7 brdo=0 mixed_ref=0 me_range=4 chroma_me=1 trellis=0 8x8dct=0 cqm=0 deadzone=21,11 chroma_qp_offset=0 threads=2 nr=0 decimate=1
mbaff=0 bframes=0 keyint=250 keyint_min=25 scenecut=0(pre) rc=abr bitrate=938 ratetol=8.7 rceq='tex^qComp' qcomp=0.50 qpmin=10 qpmax=31 qpstep=3
ip_ratio=1.25

Do you have experience with VirtualDub, VSFilter and AVISynth along with likewise programs to encode mkvs, avis or mp4s? Do you know how to use filters like sharpen, noise reduction and blur to reduce file size and resolution, while preserving quality? You may be the encoder we're looking for!

Quality check (QC): Requires free time mostly, not a complicated position. Do you have an eye for quality? Are you Mr Pedantic when it comes to video quality? Will you only ever accept videos over 1024 resolution encoded at a certain bitrate or above? Can't stand one corrupt frame or one too-dark frame? Then you sound like the perfect quality checker. We need to quality check our episode before release to make sure the video is of pristine quality, no corruptions, not too bright, not too dark, not too blurred. You will just need to watch the episode, or skim through it, before we give out the episode to the fans.

If you think you can fill any of the above position, please come let us know in #osu-recruits @ Rizon.
The Osu! team look forward to hearing from you!

I can apply to be a quality checker, timing (if you teach me Aegisub first, the only timing 'work' I've done before is with Windows Movie Maker) or an editor (although I'm not a native english speaker, I can detect many kind of errors, in fact on english tests at my school, the error correction task is the one I like the most).

Not when they're serious topics. I don't look at or comment in half of the topics around here because I either have no idea about it, or I'm not interested.

I didn't post in the TF2 topics for example, until I saw they started flaming me. I don't post in most of the troubleshooting threads unless I think I know the answer. A lot of the topics in songs, and stickied topics I have no interest in either.

If you'll look to your left, you'll see two naked men fighting over a can of paint.
