Dear god, four months later and this feature is still poorly implemented trash.

Look, this is not very hard: let people create, save, and load "tag profiles" (sets of tags) in the GUI, and only append the tags when sending the song title to the scoreboard.  This crap is like making people edit an INI file to change characters.

Yeah! It is as crappy as someone complaining that they have to change ID3 tags!!

Look at it this way: it's a quick and dirty feature implemented to keep people happy while the major update (unicode support) is worked on.
Once the big important updates that actually fix issues are out of the way, there will be room for improving the currently-implemented features.

With one developer, there's a major tradeoff: you either get new features or you get bug fixes. One guy can only do so much at a time.

Plus, there are multiple little programs you can download that will do quite a few things, including add the tags to the songs, over in the addons section.

I didn't intend this to be a "real" feature, just something to play with. If it was easy to set a profile and have tags automatically applied what tags would you set?

That's a completely biased question, because everyone likes playing with different tags. Some people like mono'ing, others like playing puzzle chars, some want the crazy banking camera, some don't. You can't have the same set of tags applied to every profile, that'll just be more annoying that you'll need to remove them if you don't want them.

Just checkmarks, checkmarks on the options menu with an Apply button or an OK button, that's all we ask ^^

But then every song would be together regardless of if you changed the game play.  This would be total chaos.  If you play [as-nogrey] it will get mixed with the normal scores.  We can't have that now can we.

Sorry, didn't think I had to detail it that much.
Anyway, here it goes again:

Just checkmarks, checkmarks on the options menu with an Apply button or an OK button which would add the correct tags automatically, that's all we ask ^^

That would mean that you want Dylan to write his own ID3 tag program and then integrade it with AS. That is alot to ask.

Well, first off if he's reading the tags, chances are the library he's using can write the tags as well.
However since the tags are completely irrelevant outside of the game, re-tagging would be pointless and Audiosurf just needs to store the information internally then add the [as- tags to the string holding the titles before it's sent to the server.
The files themselves wouldn't need to be retagged in this case. (Plus if you start messing with people's music collection and something goes wrong, you don't want to leave them ranting at you for lost music/tags/etc ;) which is why my add-on copies the file with new tags rather than retagging the original).

Nope, this:

is what I'm asking for...
