I am extremely pleased with this update, all little annoyances beside. But I do have some constructive criticism.

I do think that these new game modes make the Steam achievements moot as most of the achievements are quite easy to get with the right combination of modes. This, in my opinion, undermines the point of achievements. For example achievements like caterpillar make the 30,000 PPM achievement ridiculously easy compared to normal gameplay. Maybe it could be changed so that caterpillar is unlocked after this achievement is received, with say 4lane from 10,000 PPM or similar. Basically, make some modes unlockables.

Another simple solution would be to make it so that the ninja mono achievements are not possible when using the no gray tag, X0,000 PPM with no caterpillar, basically disable certain game modes unlocking achievements.

Hope this gets taken on board. ;)

Or you could realize achievement mean nothing anyway.  ::)

Not to mention, 99% of people will have done the achievements before turning to the  custom stuff anyway.

But it'd be completely unfair to force people to get an achievement they may not even want to TRY for (like the 30000PPM one or 11 minute stealth) just to make use of these tags.

Since the tags change the rules, simply make the achivements apply to tracks where the rules aren't changed.

I am ecstatic to see these new game modes!

After that update with the Radio songs with special features, I was kinda wishing there was a way to make that happen for normal songs -- this is an excellent way to go about it.  I was hoping for a 100% accuracy type mode. :3

My only suggestion is, yes, you should work towards making them selectable features in-game, even if it would need to temporarily alter the Mp3 meta-tag and then change it back afterwards~~?  Not that this is hard, but it would likely be more user-friendly that way. <3

Also, yes, I feel I should notice that in four-lane mode, my favorite mode, Pointman Elite, gets all screwed up.  Can't drop blocks into the fourth lane, and sometimes will drop blocks into the lane just to the left of the one you're trying to drop them in. x3

I'm lazy.  Can you have audiosurf copy the song to a temp dir and edit the tags via some kind of in game menu?
The only post that matters beyond OP.

Once you play a song with an altered game mode, that new outrageous high score is presented at the start of the track for the normal, un-altered song.

no, because the unaltered game mode will have a different scoreboard, .ash file, and name.

It would be good if there was a tag that turned off special abilities. Nogrey on pro mono is pointless if you can beat it by holding down left mouse button.

I don't mean on the scoreboard. But when you play the normal version of a song (even a different file), the high score from whatever tags you added still shows as your "Personal Best" or whatever it's called before the track starts.

Thanks--that's a good point

why would it fail to recognize it enough to give it a different personal best if it recognizes the different tags enough to put it into an entirely different scoreboard and game mode?

Because it uses the same .ash file, which is what it bases its locally-stored score cache on.
The only difference is the tags in the song file, which is uses to differentiate between songs (or modes)

The whole thing doesn't work for me at all, I've tried downloading the programs and changing it, i've changed the tag-title for about 50 songs, and the mode i'm playing never changes, always the same.  Is the problem with my game, cause the game reads the title fine.  Or with my OS, it's just vista service pack.  I really want to play some of these extra modes, and it's really frustrating staying up at all hours of the night to try and get this to work.
