That would mean that you want Dylan to write his own ID3 tag program and then integrade it with AS. That is alot to ask.

Nope, this:

However since the tags are completely irrelevant outside of the game, re-tagging would be pointless and Audiosurf just needs to store the information internally then add the [as- tags to the string holding the titles before it's sent to the server.

is what I'm asking for...

Which makes sense.

I'm just too lazy to switch to the other machine, change the tag in Amarok, play it, then switch it back, personally.

Green = listening, red = surfing

Auto-retagging would be a VERY bad thing.

But having it be a something that's applied onto the track before it loads, that's a different story -- it already does this with your character picking anyway. There's various ways it could be done, none of them affecting the files or requireing any editing outside the game.

I've said before, as fun as the game is, it's really very sloppily done. Sure it's only done by one person for the most part, but even so there's a lot of polish that could be added to simply make it that much more.

Right, if Dylan implemented a menu to choose the various game modes, it wouldn't need to retag any files, it would just load whatever game options would have been set from the id3 tags and then play the song as if it were tagged that way.

I love this idea, but there must be an easier way...  :P

I also agree that this feature needs to go into the game interface.. can't be editing ID3 tags every time you want to try something different or extreme..  not to mention what it would do to Last.fm scrobbing and other (i.e. inet radio streaming) uses of your music collection.

Does the tagging for you (on a copy of the file, although only supports mp3s at the moment)

The tags are removed before submitting to last.fm from what I've seen.

Dylan...sorry it took me so long to notice this thread.  You are the MAN!

Thanks for taking all our ranting and raving about features into your consideration.

The walldamage could give very interesting thingies. @ Ken & Uupis: Just don't use the tag then :p

Tonight when I was in bed, and I was thinking:
When you play a song and a big hill is coming, you can see the blocks go over the top of the hill before you get there, which means that you travel in the same way as the traffic, only faster. Wouldn't it be nice to have the traffic go in the other direction (ghost driver style)?

Just putting my vote in for this feature! A separate dialog box with checkboxes/radio buttons would be great.

Is there an option to turn off the track walls?

Using an addon with the option of hiding the track.

Is there an option to turn off the track walls?

Heh.. I can just imagine taking that one step further and being able to fall off the sides.  Point penalty and a delay in being returned to the track similar to respawn timing.
