Aren't z and j the same thing? All the places I've seen the Hiragana and Katakana charts, for all the s consonants you can use z OR j. Along with t -> d or j. I haven't read anywhere that specifies one of the other yet, hmm.

Correct. But I've never, ever seen じん (meaning 'person') romanized as 'zin', always as 'jin'.

Nope. "Shi" with a dakuten becomes ji, not zi.

As I asked in the other thread, are there any rules for it? Does shi ALWAYS romanise to ji and not zi? Because I have just een going with the general rules that I was able to work out, s->z, t->d, h&n->b with the dakuten. Thanks for that word also, I didn't know that they were called. What's the o called when it's in the top right that makes stuff p*?

I didn't know it was called 'dakuten' either. Thanks for that. Anyways, Wikipedia says the circle is 'handakuten'.
But yeah, some characters are a little different than expected...
し becomes 'shi' instead of 'si'
ち becomes 'chi' instead of 'ti'
じ becomes 'ji' instead of 'zi'
Are there more oddities like this, with characters being different than the pattern would suggest?

the only way to get decent plot in japan is to play an adult game.

There is some variants that DOESN'T have questionable content, CLANNAD being a significant example.

there's ANOTHER character that represent "o" ; を , used as a particle.

yeah, 3 characters with similar strokes. Tell me, what are these?

and any characters that ends with "i" , like mi, ni, chi, shi, and hi may be attached with either ゃゅょ (ya, yu or yo) . In that case, replace the 'i' part and you get myo myu mya, nyo, nyu, nya and so on and so forth.

Ive been trying to learn japanese on and off for a while now.
Hard when you have no one to talk to.

My favorite is learning how the Kanji symbols actually developed, like ookii (big) is a guy with his arms held out as far as he can reach to show how big something is.
