Epilepsy mod
« on: May 18, 2008, 06:29:55 pm »
From the topic in Discussion, and the past few topics made about it, here's a simple mod that takes away all the rings and the burst textures. Use this on Normal graphical settings, hopefully it should help those who do have problems with Audiosurf.

It's only for the black or gray backgrounds, 'cause I only have paint on this computer so I can't do transparent.

You could always grab irfan view and fix up the files to work for white as well... but it's cool that you've done this. Perhaps if it goes down really well, Dylan could even integrate this into this game.

(i've not checked this, but could you do a screenie? just to show the people what it looks like?

Well that's kind of hard, but I can show you what it does not.

See the pic. Right as I hit the block, it should of flashed up with that texture that pops up, but I removed that. And the "bang" that explodes textures at the top is gone. And there are no rings on the track.

Yeah, if anything my performance dropped with this mod lol. I am subject to shitty hardware though, so don't mind me. It pisses me off when I can run the beta better than the real deal. This game needs serious optimizations, and fix those damn system requirements Dylan, they're way off.

Not going to turn this thread into a Troubleshooting thread, but... I'm sure that any computer from the last 5 years could run Audiosurf alright. There's a good chance that something on your computer could be conflicting with it.

How can you assume that? I tried running this on a laptop w/ single core 1.8GHz, 1.5GB RAM, ATI X200M integrated gfx. Granted, it's a POS, and it's 3 years old. For the love of this computer, it can not run Audio surf. I can play other games like HL2 cranked. Some guy even got Crysis to work on a similar laptop and ran it fine on lowest settings with some tweaks. Are you really telling me that a game simple like Audiosurf is more intense than Crysis? Trust me a Geforce 2 can not run this game either. The only thing I find is if you switch to the easy level it helps the frame rate a lot, but when you switch to the elite mode, since there's more action in the game, it slows down to an unplayable level.

Bottom line = system requirements for this game are wrong. I should demand money back but it was a deceving $10. The beta ran fine too, so I was hoping for the same or a more optimized final release.

You could always just make those textures 1x1 instead of the regular size.

Smaller texture size = less to render = increased performance.

Yea, thats what I like about the changable textures. You can change the size, which can increase your FPS alot sometimes when scaling those images down. Or you can change things to look better. I myself prefer to play Audiosurf on Normal, I don't like all these effects in the background. It doesn't hit my FPS, but I just don't like them. Though I liked that Enhanced has a higher resolution texture of those rings, so I just copied it and renamed it, so I can have better looking rings on Normal :f

Ok, I've made them all 1x1, hopefully that will help those of you with performance problems. Original post updated.

ATI X200M integrated gfx.

ATI. It has a few issues with audiosurf.

Yeah, thanks. :P Couldn't do it with Paint. Added yours to the original post.
