Gameplay Question

When I first started playing, I noticed that certian blocks had these lines leading up to them that I think made you go a little faster.  I haven't seen a line like this since the tutorial.  Still, I often see them on youtube.  Can anyone tell me what these lines are, what they're used for, and how I get them back?

They're purely for decoration. The lines represent the length of a note that is held over a period of time. The note block that is on the line represents the most intense moment of the note.
If you turn the graphics up, you should see them again. But other than looking cool, they do nothing.

Maybe there could be a bonus for staying on them? Rewarding you for moving with the music?

And getting points for them is bad. What about the people who only play on Standard? Suddenly we lose out on points? That's not very fair. Or do you plan on forcing everyone to use Enhanced, making the game laggy for alot of us?
