Ok, I think activating Run in Background did the trick. I suggest making that option default to true.
Road disabling and all the other stuff works now.

About the errors:
When I open my mp3 folder (which has ~1200 files in it), only around 100 files are shown. Half of them has a name, the other half only has a number (the lowest being 15 and the heighest being 52). Most of the files are mp3's. There are around 4 wav's and there is 1 m3u (playlist) file.
The error displayed is the NotAnMP3 error.

Hope this info helps.

EDIT: I opened a folder only containing mp3's fully tagged. They were all listed as 'Unknown Artist -'

even though I used the workaround for East Asian characters, this program still displays them as ??????, giving me playback error : 2 when running audiosurf through it.

When I choose screen tilt, nothing seems to happen?  I don't know why though.

do you have the beta patch? / does the player say 'Connected' in the bottom left corner? / do any other options work? / does audiosurf quickly take focus and then lose it when you select any of the options?

I do have the beta patch and it is connected.  All the other options work and it does quickly take focus and lose it if i select anything.

Is there a new version of the player?  The last one I downloaded was the one that had the option of screen tilt before Dylan fixed it on his end.

no there isnt a new version yet. i'll get around to it soon enough :P
you won't notice screen tilt right away, though. i mean you can enable/disable during a song, but it only takes effect during the turns and such of those songs

It enables you to use a few features that are not directly accessible in-game.
For instance, it allowed you to toggle a bunch of settings like Screen-Tilt or a few other things for freeride mode.
In addition, it also makes use of an albeit clumsy playlist mode wherein you can select specific songs to play through in the character of your choice

The beta patch is no longer needed. The official Steam version has all the features this needs.

Two bugs I found:

- When AS is on full screen mode (but I alt+tab it so it's minimized) and I either check or uncheck the "run in background" box, the resolution starts going from big to small back and forth several times before my computer gets hung.

Ctrl+alt+del fixes this, but then AS closes.

Also when AS was minimized (when on fullscreen) and I minimized the player to the taskbar, the same problem occurred.

- It took me unchecking and checking lots of boxes on and off until I finally got it to have no roads, etc. It kept loading with roads etc as if I never changed anything.

yes it does, username is 'Guest' (case sensitive) and password is blank.

being able to import playlists would be really cool (.pls or .m3u)  ;)
