Why? I don't know. Personally, it isn't.

Update...
v 2 of the mod I previously posted, now with white background versions and a newer ring texture, also fixed the problem of the blocks being blacked out after/during a match... also deleted the cliff textures as there is almost nothing special\cool\unique about what it looks like...
attached is the .zip including the new mod(s), and also a screen shot...
also, laserrobotics, the cliff changes the graphic of the 'cliff' to the left and right of the track...

Here is a theme from Naruto based on the Uchiha clan. This is pretty much my first time doing any extensive texture work as I'm primarily a coder. If there are any problems let me know. Attached is an image with pretty much all modifications on screen as well as the zip file. I've only done the work for the black background but may get around to the white one as well.

I started playing with the cliff textures to see what kind of effects I could get out of it. I'm not sure how well this will work for others really, but I experimented (throwed a load of different brushes on a page more like) a little and found out... quite little. However, I will note that I've made a water gooey kind of effect by accident. Massive textures ahead. http://rapidshare.com/files/113331281/gooeycliff.zip What I am wondering is... do the textures rap around the cliff like a net? I'm not so hot when it comes to understanding things like this. It'd be cool if I could bust out my art kit and start experimenting with some kind of knowledge though.

From the looks of it, that would be a way to describe it. It looks like the cliff is uv mapped all the way around the side and overlaps.

Personally the cliff texture is the one I've been waiting for. Sweet bliss. For those who don't know it's just a full black texture.

I think the white cliff is just a straight unwrap while the black one is more... strange. I think the black one is more of a reflection than a map, if you get what I mean.

I just asked Dylan about it, and you're right. It does use a reflection mapping thingy. Dylan: kinda hard to work with the reflective mapping though huh Well, shit... but i've asked him to explain how it works.

Xilia, I think the texture for the blocks on the second screenshot works the best because it has a cleaner design. The first just looks... messy. :/

Well considering how incredibly dumb I am, can someone tell me what to name the full black texture for the cliffs? as well as the streetlamps, I'm too stupid to figure those out too

Go to WhereveryouinstalledSteam\steamapps\common\audiosurf\engine\textures\. The files are in there.

Can someone set up a full black cliff like the one a few posts before? it's hard to keep the image quality with paint, plus with photoshop you can just use clone stamp the black, which I don't have.

Uhh.... just use fillbucket tool/paintbrush? It's not that hard.
Just make a new picture and fill it with black.
