Merqury - great job on the rings...

I did a /fail attempt but i'll upload anyways.

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to use a Quake ring for the rings but the dam nail is too long.. but i did it anyways Wink

Also changed the particles to the NIN logo. Here for anyones amusment.
i did quake to :O
but that *****(mean word)nail is to big

Yeah just to get it to work I had to flip it upside down of course but then also had to distort it to only use half the height or the nail was going right through the track.

Its ugly but it works.. im done with it ;p
next...

i made a full set (black and white, rings, hit, and fireworks) called orleans. fraps keeps making audiosurf stutter, so i cant post a video of it yet. but heres a couple of screens:

i tried lots of hit markers, the x shapes and starburst shapes just work better. so i took an x and made it grittier and a little chunkier.

the ring is pretty ornate, but it works well in the game, im liking it..

and the fireworks, goes with the new orleans theme (fleur de lis on the ring, strippers, liquor, beads, and skulls for the fireworks).

its all in a zip file here (including the whites for casual.) just copy contents into textures folder (after you've backed up the files already there.) yes to overwrites..

psychosnowman:

how'd the 512 work out? i wanted to go further out on the sides (lots of potential there), but the ring barely fits in 256. i'd like to make a 512 with the ring still 256 but do some stuff with all the extra room.......

and yeah to a later post, i was thinking about squares all day at work, think ill get started on my take on it

If you look at the first post Dylan stated you could use a 1024x1024 ring if you wanted. I believe it just makes a higher rez texture but stays the same size.

ok i see what you're saying, and yeah, its true Embarrassed

thats a 256 ring in a 512 image. the rectangles are on the edge of 512.

this is in-game. though it should've been fine, the game compressed the image so that it intrudes onto the track. it wasn't touching the track without the rectangles.

so yeah, you're not limited in resolution(much), but you are in size. no going outwards..

Alright, this is probably my last update with my current set.
After extensive play I think this one is the best out of what I've customised so far despite how the tunnel graphics look on their own outside the game. I've put the tunnels back how I originally did them and added the glowy walls.
From the screenshot it probably looks like a very subtle effect but in motion as you are playing the game I think it's quite a nice effect and without the glowy walls it feels like something is missing.

I won't spam up this thread anymore unless I come up with something totally different and new lol  Grin

And the badly edited youtube video, hey I was half asleep and freezing  Tongue

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to use a Quake ring for the rings but the dam nail is too long.. but i did it anyways Wink

Also changed the particles to the NIN logo. Here for anyones amusment.

Heres a tip:

Open the original ring in Photoshop. Using the circle shape tool, trace a circle over the ring, so it exactly matches the inside of the original ring (Hit Ctrl+R to bring up the rulers, and drag blue marker lines down to match the top and left tangents of the circle to make it easier). Rasterize the shape layer, then in blending options, apply an inside stroke of any color, only make the size huge as to fill the circle itself, then set opacity to 0 to render the circle transparent. Then, apply a drop shadow, reduce the distance to 0, and set opacity to 100, so you get a black shadow ring. Erase the original ring below. Use that shadow ring as a base for all your tunnels, so you understand the bounds of the track and such. Then copy your quake ring over it, and fit the left and right extremities to the shadow ring.

Darchinist: GREAT stuff. I'm saving it.

Thanks for the tip - will try that on my next attempt!

Simple crescents for black background. Im focusing most of my time on streetlights for both backgrounds. I might finish that by the end of the night.

Well it took me two hours, but here you go.

Streetlamps for black background. They give audiosurf a true highway feel  Cool

street lamps look good...

I thought Id give them a try on GREY background to see if they would stay white.. but... they are GREY just like most of the background.. which makes sense.. oh well.. they work well.
