Hello everyone,

I noticed that for the beta, Vista users need to run the game in administrative mode.  For this, right-click on your shortcut and select "Run as administrator".  If you don't do it, you'll usually get the error message.  Seems Vista doesn't want you to write in the program file folder.

I had the exact same issue with the first beta weekend version. I'm not sure how I solved it, but I reinstalled it twice and restarted my computer once and it seemed to realise it needed to auto update. After the update it seemed to work fine.

The same screen did come up once later but my wireless was throwing a spaz at the time.

My brother's still having this problem on his computer. Reinstalled, installed in a different directory, checked the HOSTS file, blah blah blah. Beta 2 was the first version of Audiosurf installed on his computer. Running on Windows XP.

I'm also having this problem. This is the first time I've installed Audiosurf. I'm running Vista (Portuguese language), and tried everything suggested in this thread, from editing the updater file, to uninstalling and installing again, to running as admin.

Ahhhhh...Just solved the problem. What happened was that Audiosurfer was trying to go through the proxy I had setup within IE's config. Thing is, I use IE at work, and Firefox at home (without a proxy), so it really didn't register with me that there could be a proxy issue.

Good insight. Yes, Audiosurf will use the internet configuration of IE.

Could there possibly be a "Direct Connection" vs "Internet Explorer Settings" choice? I sometimes have my IE set up to use an SSH tunnel, and forget to turn it off.

I've been getting this problem all weekend, too... :-[ I don't use any proxies or connect in any odd way (although I do use AOL; does that have any effect?), and I never had the first beta installed on my comp. And, even though it doesn't apply to me since I didn't have the first beta, how come I don't have any "host" file anywhere?

Im running Windows XP Professional, and cant get Audiosurf to work. it keeps saying that i have an expired beta and no patches have worked so far. it tells me to run the updater, but when i restart my game, it doesnt update. none of the above replies have helped. this is really too bad, because ive played audiosurf once yesterday, and think that it is a really good game, but its not working.

my internet connection is fine, i tried it at school and at home, and im not running proxies.

Are you running the demo (here: http://www.igf.com/audience.php) or an old weekend beta?
