gameShock - new game news/review/community website
« on: February 24, 2008, 06:37:30 pm »
Hey, I wanted to let everyone know about gameShock, my new
game news/review/community site. It's not 100% polished, and theres
still a lot left to do to make it complete, but I'd love to get the game community
involved.

One thing we're aiming for, is getting input from gamers about what they want to see
in  games, and passing it on to game developers, so that you can have a say in the
development of the games you love.

I know there's nothing going on in the forums yet, but we would love to get things started
and start getting you all involved. Hope to see you all there.

Link perhaps?

One thing I want is the ability to replay the game after you beat it, but you keep all your weapons etc. Only in games where you do get better stuff as you go along obviously. Audiosurf, Halo, portal, etc would have no use for such a feature.

the image is a link.. but if that doesn't work, http://gameshock.x10hosting.com
check it out, let me know what you think. I know the forum is totally empty now,
but that's something I can't really do anything about except advertise for it, haha

And yea, that's a thing that would be kind of nice too. Some games do things like that;
I'm thinking Ratchet & Clank 2 does that if you beat it all and play again on the hard mode.
I know for sure that your weapons can get extra upgrade levels if you replay in hard....

p.s. - our first review is of Audiosurf ;)

Oops. I didn't see the image due to this crummy firewall and its buggy parental controls.

sorry about that.

im completely against pimping free websites. If you want to have a website it should be one you have to pay for, there only about $60 a year. So get a real domain name and hosting package

As racingfreak said... you can't really be taken seriously when you're taking a free ride off someone else' server.

Im not really sure what wikia is, to me it just looks like a collection of free wikis made for specific subjects.  Its again the same thing as what you have but your given a strict template and a wikipedia is used more for information youre trying to say is a statement or a fact and not a opinion (like a review).

The only problem about creating a general game news/review site is the HUGE amount of siets already out there and the small audience you will be looking for. IGN and Gamespot are so popular that they attracted the mainstream gamer to their site, something that isnt really done by any other site. So what a small independent site does is fight over the small amount of hardcore gamers. Now, if youve never really posted on forums before its gonna be even harder to get traffic. But if you keep the content constant and realibe as well as provide quick responses to users questions you could gain a small audience.

well, back to the actual subject. Gameshock.com is taken, and finding a good game site name is hard these days but once you find a name you like use godaddy.com or 1 and 1 and register the domain and grab some hosting. For only about $70 a year you can host and own the domain
