there is also mods like Bad Behavior and project honey pot, which really cut down on a lot of spam, when added to something like recaptcha.

I mentioned those in my message to Dylan, hopefully they might get implemented sometime.
Austria is just like Yorkshire, but they have bigger hills.... oh and they have real snow too

Bad Behavior and Project Honey Pot aren't as good as you might think. Tried them with wordpress and it didn't stop them at all from registering often.
There's better ways where you can create "are you human" checks in the registration form, or make it so that an administrator approves the registration.

they help a bit, got Bad behavoir with honey pot installed on a smf fourm along with recaptcha, and they cut spam down to a amount that is pretty manageable, i only need to ban 1 or 2 bots a week.

So far just having reCaptcha has cut it down from an estimate of 100 a day to roughly 20 a day.
