Digger:  Uses a standard colored block course.  Left click lets you pick up blocks, but instead of stacking them on top, they stack from the bottom, up (white/black blocks probably shouldn't be allowed to stack from the bottom).  Right click will simply delete the block and not allow it to go into your inventory.

Fairly simple character, but I'm sure there can be many uses with such a basic ability.
They call me KWOL.

Mono Cruiser: Same deal with the Colour vs Grey block as per all the other mono's, 5 or 7 Lanes with no shoulders, Block spacing is similar to Mono Pro, same powers as Mono Elite, Left Click to grab left & right (just 1 lane, not whole grid), & right click to Shuriken Greys.

Teleporter: 5 to 7 Lanes, no shoulders, same colour system as Mono, with added Black Blocks (rare) that null's the special abilities, Same block spacing as Mono Elite. Special abilities, Left Click : Teleport 2 Lanes to the Left, Right Click: Teleport 2 Lanes to the Right.

Yes, both have more lanes, this is one of the most fun games I have played in a very long time & one thing that I believe could add something more to the game (Mono is my favorite mode by far) would be more lanes, as I believe it would push the player to be more accurate in changing lanes.

Nice.

I've been playing around with an idea lately, after several modifications I've found the best way i think.

Contrast:
Rather than collecting blocks to score you have to avoid them, kinda like Mono with only greys.

The scoring system would exactly work like the scoring system now for the Mono except to build up points you need to avoid blocks. The block display would fill up depending which lane held the block that you've avoided*.

Hitting a block would cause your ship to become a ghost for 4 seconds and your avoidances would not count for that time, you still have to avoid the blocks though because if you hit one than your ghost penalty timer will reset; if you had a combo building up when hitting a block than it would either finish instantly (if you have the Phaseback power on cd, see below) or if Phaseback is off the cd than you'd get two seconds to dispel the ghost and continue your combo.

*(For example: If you've avoided a block that was in the left lane than you would start to fill the left column.)

Powers:
Autopilot - For 3 seconds your ship automatically avoids all blocks using the best course, this can cause an overfill because the autopilot doesn't pay attention to the current status of your block display.
Cooldown: 25 seconds.

Phaseback - If you are a ghost while using this power than you can dispel your ghost penalty that you get for picking up a block, if you are quick enough than you can even continue your combo. However if you use this power while in normal mode than you can pick up blocks for two seconds (overfill rules apply).
Cooldown: 20 seconds.

Shoulders:
Casual - Yes
Pro and Elite - No

Overfill penalty:
Casual - None
Pro - 2 second ghost (cannot be dispelled)
Elite - 2 second stun (you will get locked into your current lane, if you pick up more than one block than the ghost penalty timer will reset for each one, you can't use Phaseback while stunned but you can use it after the stun ends)

Ironmode rules would stay the same like they are now.

Hmm i hope all this makes sense, I'm a bit tired  :D.

Keep up the good work with Audiosurf, it's a very good game and nice change from the spam of soulless games these days.

What about a completely custom mode for those that just want to play for fun?
- Choose number of colors (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5)
- Choose car ability
- A checkbox for shoulders or no shoulders
- Checkboxes for available powerups (Example: Okay I want to be able to get multipliers, sorts, and rainbows but not the others)
- Choose number of lanes (2 (DVE style), 3, or 4)
- A moving-bar thingy for speed (from slow (like casual) to wtf fast (like ironmode or maybe faster D: ))
- Another moving-bar thingy for traffic (again from like casual to ironmode+)

Really like that idea actually Pyritie, just as long as you aren't allowed to submit scores for it, it'd be pretty awesome.

I'd so love to try like DvE but with 4 lanes for each car. Or Mono with 4 lanes, or 2.

Or one lane even :O

(of course you'd have to have a shoulder for that but heh.)

Vertigo - A Vegas Variant

When you move to the left shoulder for a moment, the left column and the middle column switch places, similar to the right shoulder with the right and middle switching.

i like the vertigo idea, it'd add a little depth by way of confusion. on the other hand, isn't vegas  chaotic enough?

One of my older threads (I'm too lazy to search for it right now) has a suggestion for a character called Inverse.

Ah, found it. --
Left-click ability would be similar to Eraser, but instead of erasing, it changes blocks of that color to the "opposite" color based on the difficulty and the colors it has. E.G. a blue block would change to red in Casual or yellow in Pro or Elite. This would have no effect on yellows in Casual or greens in Elite, or white/black in any difficulty.
Right-click ability would flip the entire board upside-down. Quite simple.
And both abilities would require charge time afterward.

Repulser

Left click deflects negative cars.

Negative cars moves twice as fast as the regular ones. If you get hit, it takes away about 500-1000 points.
Regular cars gives 600 points.

If you successfully deflect a negative car then you gain 2000 points. The deflector recharges after 10 seconds.

Invader:

Like Mono (there are two coloured blocks). However, blocks can't be picked up but must be shot instead.

Left click = shoot the block to split it into three blocks across all the lanes and make it 'pick-up-able'.

Rick click = shoot grey blocks (must be recharged).

Rewinder.

Rewinds the song an X number of seconds backward and then goes forward again, allowing you another chance to snatch up a missed block or powerup.

Shifter
Left click - widen
Right click - destroy greys
Space bar - change colors

So, just like mono but with red and blue cars. Your ship changes between red and blue by using the space bar. When you hit a car the same color as your ship it turns into a multicolor block. When you hit a block a different color than your ship it turns into a grey block. It's basically an addition to the mono side of gameplay. I could describe a way this could also be another double vision but I'm tired from typing all this.

That sounds really awesome. I would assume what you're talking about with it being a type of double vision is that one car would be red, and the other would be blue, and the red one would have to pick up red blocks and dodge blue blocks, while the blue car would do the inverse, or something along those lines. Which also sounds like it could be really cool.

I don't have a clever name for it or anything, but I would love to see a 2-player mono mode... not necessarily like the "stunt double" idea, since I feel that would get really hard to keep track of in very intense songs, but even a toggle to make double vision play with mono rules would be very fun indeed. The combined combos between both characters would still work, too. I'd love to see this!

This is exactly what I was thinking. I really like the mono gameplay, but I also want to have friends come over and play with me. They could call it "Stereo" or something. :)
