Playing with an Xbox 360 controller
« on: February 19, 2008, 10:43:03 am »
I'm playing the game with a 360 controller. It's great, far more comfy than the mouse or keyboard.

However, I can't seem to be able to move into the shoulders with the pad. Is there a way to do this?

Also, is it possible to go onto the next song from the score screen using the pad? Means I wouldn't have to get up to change it with the mouse after every song.

The menus are not currently navigable via controller, only through the mouse

I found that you can get into the shoulders by pushing both analogue sticks in the direction you want to go. :)

Same directions = shoulders

Opposite directions & center = center

This is the way the analogue stick work :p

And if you push the stick (any of them) forward or backward, you can move more precisely the ship, just like the mouse ;)

i was doing something kinda different with this game, involving a HDTV linked to my laptop as a "mirror image" of my monitor, basically if i plugged in my TV and controller, and closed my laptops "lid" i could play on a HDTV at the normal viewing angle of say console games, maybe its the different color adjustments but it was AWESOME. but like one poster said it was kinda annoying to have to go back and mouse the menu's. i suggest this control scheme(surely it could be done, a quick edit of a file perhaps?)
Stick: move(same how it is, but let me go to the shoulders on just one stick.)
Triggers/bumpers:Same
A:select
B:Back(in the menu and song selection)
D-PAD:Select song, say right moves through folders and left goes back(hey that eliminates A and B)
oh, and Start/Pause/Xbox guide button would be awesome if that hit ESC. cant tell ya how many times i screwed up royally because i wanted to take a break in between freebird :P

If you want to navigate menus with the 360 pad install this: http://www.xpadder.com/

it was mentioned by someone else in another thread. Basically it lets you assign 360 pad buttons to certain keyboard/mouse actions.

Since the dpad and the controller's face buttons aren't used in-game, i used xpadder to make the dpad control the mouse movements, a and b as alternatives for the left and right mouse click, and start as escape. it works a charm.
