Losing a channel after grabbing a block
« on: May 27, 2012, 12:34:38 am »
I've got a weird problem.

I usually play in Ninja Mono.  However as soon as I collect the first coloured block, I lose sound out of the front left channel.

This only occurs in Audiosurf, and it's not the mp3, as it works fine in VLC, Media Player, and Beat Hazard.

I've verified the files more than once, so don't believe that's the issue.

This is not a common bug, error, or a solution so I've split your reply into a new topic.

You're welcome! :)

Sounds like your speaker/sound card/audio drivers may be having issues with the sound effect played on collecting a block.  Have you tried turning the sound effects off so just the song plays?  If that works, then also try using different sound effect sets.

I've tried what you suggested.  With sound effects off, the track plays normally.  With sound effects on (I tried all 4 sets), when I collect the first block I lose the front left channel.

I also have a 5.1 Headset, which worked normally and as expected both with sound effects on and off.

So it does appear to be an issue with the VIA High Definition Audio drivers. According to Device Manager, the current driver is dated 11/01/2010 (American date?) and is version 6.0.1.7900, signed by M$ Hardware Compatibility Publisher.

As your headset works it would point to the driver being to blame. You could check the manufactures website, though at a guess there won't be anything newer.

Aye, I'd guess it'll be MMDDYYYY format not the British way.
Australia is kinda awesome, but it's no Yorkshire.
