Highest Possible Matches
Hi all. :D
Using some of the song tags I ran some tests to see what the highest possible matches are for each difficulty level. :)
If you have any factors which might make these scores differ let me know.
After seeing different information about the exact percentage bonus some character had I tested them all to see what the “real” bonus was for each. Here are some key factors for each max score:
For all difficulties, the chain bonus maxes at exactly 4x (300% on original score). I determined this using
[as-everybodymono] [as-nogrey] [as-caterp] tags and playing on DVE until I reached it. The chain bonus is maxed when the chain bar shown at the bottom changes from a white colour to a dynamic colour associated with the speed of the track.
For bonuses across the middle in DV casual, I got 1.5x original score (50% extra).
For bonuses across the middle in DV Pro, I got 1.75x original score (75% extra).
For bonuses across the middle in DVE, I got 2.4x original score (140% extra).
Using the "Basic Score Chart for Elite mode" found in Puzzle Scoring on Audiosurf Wiki, I discovered that the 20% base bonus for all elite matches is fixed, and does not change dependent on the number of blocks in the match. I did several tests in pointman casual using paints etc to determine this. For example, a match 21 in pointman was 2100 points. The chart for an elite match of 21 blue blocks is 2520, exactly 20% extra. This is the same bonus for a match of 3 blue blocks. (60 in casual, 72 in elite).
Sync Bonus is exactly 1.3x (30%)
With these in mind this is how I came up with the scores in each difficulty. :P
CASUAL
Highest potential match character:
DV
Why?
It has the extra bonus of matches across the middle of the columns, whereas pointman does not. Also, it has 24 slots, where pointman only has 21, allowing for bigger matches.
Scenario:
Chain Bonus is at max. Grid has two matches, 21 red blocks (across the middle...obviously :P) and 3 yellow blocks (across the middle).
Score:
Red Match:
Base score: 8400. Added bonus across the middle is 1.5x, sync bonus is 1.3x, chain bonus is 4x.
Therefore match is 8400*1.5*1.3*4
=65 520
Yellow Match:
Base score: 150. Added bonus across the middle is 1.5x, sync bonus is 1.3x, chain bonus is 4x.
Therefore match is 150*1.5*1.3*4
=1170
Total Score: 66690
How's that for a kahuna! :P
PRO
This is the largest due to the possibility of multipliers. ;)
Highest Potential Match Character:
DVP
Why?
I had to calculate this compared with Vegas and Eraser/Pusher but DVP wins. Vegas has a multiplier potential of x7, but no other character bonuses, and only has a grid of 21 slots. DVP has a grid of 28 slots, a multiplier potential of x4 PLUS character bonus of 1.75x across the middle. (1.75*4=7, same as Vegas’ multiplier). Eraser and Pusher have a bonus of 2X for clean finish, however, after calculations, turns out the extra grid slots of DVP overcomes the slightly better character bonus (about 30k points in it).
Scenario:
Chain bonus is at max. Grid has two matches, 1 match of 25 red blocks and 1 match of 3 yellow blocks, both across the middle. A multiplier power up has been hit, showing 4x.
Score:
Red Match:
Base score for match of 25: 10235 (using as-tag tests). Bonuses added of 1.75x across the middle, 1.3x for sync bonus, 4x for chain, and 4x for multiplier.
Therefore score is: 10235*1.75*1.3*4*4
=372554
Yellow Match:
Base score: 150. Added bonus across the middle is 1.5x, sync bonus is 1.3x, chain bonus is 4x.
Therefore match is 150*1.5*1.3*4
=1170
Total Score: 378724
WOOHOOO!!!! :D :D :D :D
Elite:
Highest potential match character:
DVE
Why?
Easily has best character bonus of 140% for matches across the middle. It also has the largest grid, thus larger matches, with 28 slots.
Scenario:
Chain bonus is at max. Same as pro, with two matches across the middle. 1 Match of 25 reds and 1 match of 3 yellows.
Score:
Red Match:
Base score: 12282 (due to 20% bonus for base matches in elite, tested using tags). Bonuses added, 2.4x for match across middle, 4x for max chain bonus, 1.3x for sync bonus.
Therefore score is 12282*2.4*4*1.3
=153279
Yellow Match:
Base score: 180 (due to 20% bonus for base matches in elite, tested using tags). Bonuses added, 2.4x for match across middle, 4x for max chain bonus, 1.3x for sync bonus.
Therefore score is 180*2.4*4*1.3
=2246
Total Score: 155525.
Nice!@!#~!%!
Of course, it is virtually impossible to get these bonuses, unless you expertly managed hundreds of forced clear matches to build the chain, the easily dropped chains in casual, and the lack of paint powerups to get all those red blocks in elite. Still kinda cool to know what it could be though under perfect circumstances. :D
If anyone has any conflicting bonuses or scores with mine, please let me know to adapt the scores and to run more tests. :D

Is it just me or was this... kind of... 'not surprising'?
Well, except for the DVP part. I've seen heromasu get 200k cluster using Vegas, so I always thought Vegas was the best for that sort of stuff.
S.:
I thought the multipliers were addiditive.
So not
base * 1.5 * 1.3 == base * 1.95
but
base * 1.8
Am i wrong?
(example is DVC with shared match and sync but no chain)

I just tested it and I still think they're multiplied, not additive. Using DVE and no chain bonus, I got a blue match of 3, across the middle, with a sync bonus. The score was 225. The base score is 72. If it was additive, then the two bonuses would be 100.8 and 21.6 respectively, for a total of 194. Multiplied, score was 72*1.3*2.4= 225.

Just tested it also and it does seem to be multiplied. Also, I believe a M28 red > M25 red + M3 Yellow due to the exponential growth of match score with each additional block.
