Help me! I want some scores on this board!
« on: March 16, 2012, 01:24:36 pm »
I'm going to be playing this one a lot, and I'm tired of having no top tier scores (or ANY scores) on the tracks I like to play. So I would love it if some of the pros (or ANYBODY) could give me something to compete against and shoot for on this particular track. I also think this track is incredibly bad ass (and fun to surf) and want others to listen to it. :P Here's the FLAC and ASH.

It's entitled "X-Hunted", a remix by Dominic Ninmark of Yuki Iwai's "Counter Hunter Stage 1" from the SNES game "Mega Man X2 (aka Rockman X2)". It was just recently released as part of the OverClocked ReMix "Mega Man X: Maverick Rising" fan album.

I'm sure you'll score twice as high as me right off the bat. ::) Grrr.

I'm no pro, but I will try to beat your score.

I wasn't expecting this many people! :D

There are a couple Pusher scores higher than my Pointman score. If I can figure out a way to keep the chain going in that middle stretch of nothing...

*EDIT*

Now there's a Pointman score higher than mine too. Yay!

Yeah, those are some good scores, Metal and Nurket. I don't know how the hell you got them. And that's what I was wanting, so thank you. :)

I keep getting around the same score. But your scores are so much higher. I'm not dropping the chain anymore than Metal (when it matters), and I'm not missing THAT many more reds and yellows (same goes for # collected of the other colors). And I thought I was doing a pretty good job with making large yellow/red matches, with a small match of a second color for sync bonus. But obviously I'm still not utilizing some key techniques...

I'll figure it out eventually, damn it.

You still miss to many too many to get BN/SR, though. That should be the next step to improve your score, try to get close to 100% picked yellow/red bricks on any song. Dont care about the sync bonus right now, that will come almost naturally once you're able to catch all the yellows/reds.

You should collect more reds and yellows to get BN/SR. You should practice saving reds and yellows by placing them on either the left or right lanes. You should place reds and yellows in the center lane only when you're ready to match. If you place reds and yellows in the center lane early your matches of reds and yellows will be smaller than you want them to be. Placing reds and yellows on the left or center lanes is the concept of priming with pointman.

I try to, and I've gotten a little better at it.

If you place reds and yellows in the center lane early your matches of reds and yellows will be smaller than you want them to be. Placing reds and yellows on the left or center lanes is the concept of priming with pointman.
Usually I'll stack one or two of the first main color in both corners, then one or so of the second main color until I find a good moment where I can drop many of the first main color into the middle starting the match, then I try to build the middle up and over the second main color on the sides, while maybe dropping a couple more of the second main color if I need to to extend the match, then I try to keep room for a three block match of whatever non-main color I can pick up for the sync bonus. Then after that match clears, the second main color blocks fall and start another match, and so I try to alternate like that.

I do tend to mess up a lot with the faster tracks like this one, and waste too many main color blocks in small, isolated, unconnected matches. I have a problem of holding the scoop down constantly, not being able to let go and instantly place a block or group of blocks when I should, which can quickly catch up to you, overfill your queue, and mess up your board on the faster tracks.
