running game displays a blank screen and title screen music

hello everyone. i downloaded steam and installed the demo for the game earlier tonight. however, i have yet to be able to experience the game. whenever i run the game, i get a blank window (see screenshot below). a few seconds later, i can hear what seems to be the title screen music. however, the window remains blank. after a minute or so, the music stops and i'm left with a blank useless window. any ideas what it could be?



my current configuration:
 - athlon xp 2600+ barton
 - 1024mb pc3200 ram
 - ati x1300pro (256mb)
 - winxp sp2

i have installed the latest drivers for my video card and have kept both .NET framework versions 1.1 and 2.0 up-to-date, as per microsoft's patches. i have also installed the latest revision of directX 9.0c. i have restarded both steam and my computer multiple times.

I GOT IT TO WORK!!! HERE'S HOW...

the newest ATI Catalyst drivers (8.1) do not work. i downgraded to my previous driver set (Catalyst 6.14) and now audiosurf works! i'm not sure if other driver versions will work as well, but i do know that 8.1 does not. i reverted back to 6.14 because it was what i had backed up. if anyone can test the 7.x drivers, that would be great, though i don't know where to obtain them since ATI only seems to have the latest drivers on their site... i have found that ATI likes to keep backups of its installers in the following path: C:\ATI\SUPPORT\ so check there for older driver versions first

first thread linked: already tried restarting steam, as mentioned above. restarted the computer as well.

second thread linked: deleted the ClientRegistry.blob file from the steam folder and restarted the computer. no change.

third thread linked: anti-aliasing is not on. it is set to "let application decide." the people in that thread seem to be able to actually see the menu, load the sons, and all though... i can't even get the title screen to load!

fourth thread linked: has nothing except for the same links you posted above.


any more ideas? i would love to be able to play this game

thanks, hopefully this update fixes the issues. i keep reading so much about this game and being unable to play it for seemingly unknown issues is quite frustrating.

Instead of just restarting steam, or deleting the stupid blob file, try deleting the entire game out of your steam folder, and let it redownload it. Maybe then it will obtain proper files? Or before you go that far, try verifying the integrity of the game with/through steam.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know I had the exact same problem the original poster had.  But I did what NightRyder said to do and went into my games page on steam>right clicked and selected properties>then I tabbed over and went to verify the game integrity.  After that the game worked again, but I was forced to go back and do the tutorial stuff...which wasn't that big of a deal seeing as how relived I was to get my addiction back up and running.

I have the same issue as the original poster.  I’ve tried everything listed above with no luck, including redownloading and checking the integrity several times over.  Is there any ETA on the fabled "fix" for this issue?

wuff--we hope to have another patch version coming out tonight. The first patch we've tried with a few people has really helped, so we're making some more improvements and hope to send another one out soon for testing. 

So--we'll probably put a post up on this forum to call for testers, and you could try that out to see if it resolves your issues.

i received an email with a link for Audiosurf_wSteamPatch2_RC1_2.19.08, which i tried out. no go, the same problem with the blank window occurs.
