I'm using 8.2 and it doesn't work (for me anyway).  I also tried 7.12, 7.11, and 7.10 with no luck.  I don't really want to go all the way back to 6.14... My other steam games had issues on older versions of the ATI drivers, so I'd rather not break those to get this to work.

I've already told Dylan this next part, but I'll stick it here to:

I tried the first version of the patch and the only change I notice is it now starts out with a black screen instead of a white one.  However, it still doesn't load beyond that single color screen with the music playing.

The second version of the patch does the same thing as the first version.  (PS: I caught the link error, so I know I am using the actual second version)

:(

wuff--sorry it's not working. Dylan has a couple more ideas so we'll keep trying.

wuff,

Could you try running this?

http://media.bestgameever.com/whiteScreen_Test.exe

It's the game intro only. It should load up a white screen and then fade in the black text "www.audio-surf.com". If you get nothing but a white screen with this, at least it is then narrowed down.

And, if that one doesn't show any text, what about this one?

WOOHOO! Got it to work!  ;D

When I first ran the WhiteScreen Test file that Dylan gave me, I got a DirectX version checker error that basically said 9.0c wasn't installed.  I knew 9.0c was installed (DXDiag confirmed), but that got me thinking.  I decided to force a reinstall of 9.0c and wouldn't you know it, everything started working.  The demo, the patches, the white screen test files... it was like magic.  I played through a song (wicked fun, by the way), just to make sure I could actually play and not just only start the game, and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for all your help Dylan and lebeth!

PS: Reinstalling 9.0c is a little tricky, if anyone needs help with that, I can post steps.

PPS: I'll still be happy to test any patches (or anything you guys have for that matter), just let me know if you need me.

PPPS: I'm using the latest ATI drivers (aka Catalyst ver 8.2)

Yeah!!

Oh man I am so happy that it looks like we are at the root cause of the white screen bug. Thanks so much for all your help.

Glad to do it.  :D

FYI: Running that DirectX web installer WILL NOT reinstall DirectX if you already have the latest version.  You've got to trick it before it will actually do anything.

Hate to rain on the parade here, but I'm having the same issue that the OP was having only with my admittedly ass-old GeForce 4. It manages to run HL2 and TF2 without any of the shiny graphics turned on, so I don't think it's an issue of not having enough grunty horsepower to throw at the problem. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a full system reboot, and I'm wondering if I can avoid having to hit that shiny power button.

Still nothing but a windows-default-gray slab of blank window where I assume the game should be.

Nope.

Tell it to me straight, doc. How bad is it?

Edit: Har. Apparently something was lingering from another game of mine. Audiosurf ran just fine after my system got too hot and rebooted itself. So much for that uptime bet I had going with a friend, though.
