Want to play but steam doesn't allow
« on: February 14, 2009, 01:14:06 pm »
Hello, first post here so nice to meet you  :)

Yesterday i tried to register a steam account so i can buy your great game. After an hour of trouble i've sended the following mail to the support:

Hello,

today i wanted to by Audiosurf which i think is a great game. And 10 euro are not much. So i added it to the card and tried to make a new account. But your stupid captchas are unbreakable and the system tould me that i'm ever wrong. A couple of try and error later i got the message that there is still a account registerd with this mail. Nice work (never got a affirmation only the stupid "the code is wrong") but i don't know the used nick couse the system ever told this nick is in use. After some minutes i found the account recovery and installed steam. "No i don't know my nick"... and i got _two_ mails. Another great work of the site. Now i have to stupid useless accounts. But ok i tried to recover one of the accounts, got a mail with the verification code and made a new password (by the way: Why is it impossible to copy&paste the password? I use passwords with 30 and more letters and different characters. It's not funny to type them by hand.). What says Steam? "Password or Answer is wrong". Oh super but could you tell me what is exactly wrong (this question is rhetorical)?

After an hour of "playing" with steam and your login system i think i take the money and buy a good wine or anything similar which uses no captchas and stupid programs.

Good night,
a lost customer

After some minutes i got twice the following helpful mail back:

Hello,

You have just sent a message to the helpdesk we use to manage our emails. Before your email is entered into our system, you need to create a new account. To finish submitting your email, please sign up at the following URL:

 ??? :-\

Is there any other legal way to play?

Greetings,
Itte

I use passwords with 30 and more letters and different characters.

That's rather silly.

Make a brand new email, make a new account, and if you have trouble with the captchas, just give us a screenshot and we'll help.

I use passwords with 30 and more letters ever since my problem with steam. Granted, I don't log in half the sites I used to from my phone, but still.

Nothing silly there, imo... as long as you never check them at the online hash checkers etc.

Yeah, we know Steam's a piece of crap.

Nothing new.

Okay, um, no.

The new account that you need to make is NOT a new Steam account, it is a Steam support account, which is completely different(and so should your information for it) so people can still contact support if their Steam account gets stolen.

Okay, I misinterpreted what you said.  My earlier comment was referring to the new account they were saying to make in the email, not the account you needed to make to play Audiosurf.  Congrats on figuring it out, though.
